Friendship Star Baby Quilt

Here is a baby quilt built on a classic block that never loses its interest. Make it easily using an Omnigrid 6" by 24" ruler, your rotary cutter and mat.
(Click here to see one version of the Friendship star Baby Quilt.) By coloring the block asymmetrically you can get wonderful secondary patterns with out a lot of color changes. To see some click the versions below.

*NOTE: These designs were done using Electric Quilt 4 software.

The basic Friendship star block is based on a "nine-patch" form, and is made by combining a mixture of half-square triangles and squares. Here it is:

Design Exercise

Grab some ¼" graph paper and add diagonal lines to make friendship star variations. Then pull out the colored pencils and play with some different designs. Notice how you can create secondary designs depending on how you color your corner blocks! Mix the Friendship star with other nine-patch blocks. Designing is so much fun you may have trouble moving on to fabric!
